The federal McKinney-Vento Act provides rights, protections, and services to children and youth experiencing homelessness. To ensure that McKinney-Vento Act rights and services can be easily understood among diverse communities, there is a need for inclusive and accessible informational materials for students and families experiencing homelessness.
In collaboration with Longview School District and the Washington State Governor’s Office of the Education Ombuds, Building Changes created a flyer to help address this need in schools, districts, and communities throughout Washington. With illustrations from artist Gabriel Campanario, the flyer visually highlights key information: how to get in touch with the nearest liaison, and the rights and services available for students experiencing homelessness.
Schools and school districts are welcome to copy, customize, and distribute the flyer. There is a version with English text, which can be downloaded as a PDF below. There is also a “no text” version of the flyer which can be downloaded as a zip Archive file. It contains the flyer in JPG format, which can be inserted into a Word document, allowing for the text to be fully tailored and translated into other languages to meet a specific community’s needs.
