Targeted to school district McKinney-Vento (MKV) liaisons, support staff, and school administrators, this training is designed to help participants gain an understanding of the role of Coordinated Entry, housing authorities, low-income housing, and various types of housing support that exist in their local communities. Participants review and discuss the misalignment in how homelessness is defined by the Department of Education (DOE) and Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the impact this has on students and families experiencing homelessness accessing housing resources. Through conversation and a provider panel, participants learn how to better partner with housing providers and community-based organizations to support the whole-child. Presenters include: Samie Iverson, Senior Manager of Education Strategy, Building Changes; Kayla Blau, writer and youth advocate; and Joey Heilman, Education Strategy Specialist, Building Changes.
This training was recorded on March 2, 2022 and is part of Building Changes’ Response to Student Homelessness Training Series created in partnership with the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).
