In the 2023 state legislative session, Building Changes is advocating for a $5.6 million increase in funding for the Homeless Student Stability Program (HSSP), which awards grants to school districts and nonprofits statewide in support of students experiencing homelessness. Grants are made to both school districts and nonprofits to identify students experiencing homelessness, coordinate support, and provide housing resources to students and their families. With additional funding, HSSP can expand its reach across the state and increase the capacity of more school districts and housing organizations to provide needed housing and education support for students.
This two-page policy brief provides an overview of HSSP and why increased investment in the program is needed.
