Centralized Diversion Fund

Flexible solutions, centered on families.

At Building Changes, we believe every family deserves a safe, stable place to call home. But in King County, a single setback—a missed rent payment, car repair, or medical bill—can push families into crisis. Traditional systems are often rigid and slow, leaving families without timely options.

The Centralized Diversion Fund (CDF) is a system-wide resource developed with Africatown International and Building Changes. It provides flexible funding to help families move into permanent housing—covering costs like security deposits, first and last month’s rent, relocation assistance, or paying down rental debt. By addressing the barriers that keep families locked out of housing, CDF makes stability possible.

Rooted in equity and dignity, the CDF combines flexible funds with light-touch services so families can identify the solutions that work best for them. Centralized and streamlined, it connects families quickly to permanent housing without forcing them into rigid program boxes.

We’re working to make the CDF a permanent, fully funded part of King County’s Coordinated Entry system, ensuring more families can resolve a housing crisis quickly, safely, and with dignity.
